It took many days to simply contain a few of the San Diego wildfires. While more were beginning to develop, brave firefighters risked their lives to save property and lives. Several people died during the wildfires. Thousands have lost their homes. Millions are breathing in ashes that are being spread throughout the air. The National response led by President George Bush has been much faster relative to the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Statewide Response has also been pretty good led by Governor Arnold Schwarzenager, and local officials are pulling resources to help victims. 0% of the fire was contained on October 22, which was several days after it broke out.
More then 1,000 Firefighters battled the flames and saved lives and property. They were using every means available to them including aircraft to disperse water on the fire.
Evacuations
1,000,000 people evacuated their homes. Mandatory Evacuations were called for early and additional evacuations were called as the fires spread. The police used the reverse 911 system to contact people. The reverse 911 system is an automated system that calls from the dispatch to home telephone numbers for people living in effected areas. Some took refuge in Qualcomm Stadium, where thousands of volunteers helped supply people with essential items like food, water, clothing, baby goods, toys for kids, cots to sleep on. Local businesses pitched in with donations. . Some of the areas affected in San Diego County are Barret Junction, Engineer Springs, Fairbanks Ranch, Rancho San Diego and Jamul and many others. Ventura County, the beach town of Malibu and parts of L.A. are also being devastated. VIDEOS BELOW!
